The Enchantments - Colchuck Lake

The Enchantments is a truly magical section in Washington located in the Alpine Lake Wilderness. Permits are required for both day use and overnight trips.

  • Day users can obtain a free, self-issue, wilderness permit at the trailhead.
  • During the quota season (May 15 through October 31), overnight users must obtain a permit through recreation.gov or the Wenatchee River Ranger Station daily lottery. Permits are $5.00/person/day.

We started out hike into Colchuck Lake at 6:40am and after 5.66 miles and 3,456ft of elevation gain we arrived at our camp site at 10:10am.
I highly recommend starting early, especially if you're going on a weekend because the trailhead fills up super early. This was a Saturday and the trailhead was already full for day use parking by 5:30am.

We were immediately greeted by a mama mountain goat and her kid.
After setting up camp we took a dip in Colchuck Lake. It was incredible! The water temperature was a little chilly but not bad at all after that long hike in.
There were many rainbow trout swimming around as well. - I was very sad I didn't bring my fly rod.
