Mount McLoughlin

Mt. McLoughlin is a steep stratovolcano. Which means its built up of many layers (strata) of hardened lava, tephra, pumice, and ash. It is one of the volcanic peaks in the Cascade Volcanic Arc, within the High Cascades. Elevation is at 9,493 feet.

This hike is about 11 miles with 3,720 feet of elevation gain. Rated as "difficult", you want to allow yourself 4-5 hours for the trek.

About half way through the hike i remembered to turn on the All Trails app and track our progress.

The first 1/2 of the trail looks like this.

About half way there is a great viewpoint where you can see Fish Lake.

Just when I thought we reached the summit, this amazing view came into place. the last 1/4 of the hike is the most elevation gain.

We finally reached the top and celebrated with a beer!

It was real windy and chilly at the top, so if you plan on hanging out up there long make sure you pack a sweatshirt.
